Learning to Knit Congratulations at deciding to learn to knit. Knitting is a fun, relaxing hobby that allows you to make your own garments, accessories and furnishings for a fraction of the designer prices found in stores. We know it can all seem a bit daunting at first but you've nothing to worry about - learning to knit is not nearly as difficult or baffling as you might think. In fact, one of the best things about knitting is that you can get started on making something after only learning a few really basic techniques. We've pulled together some of the best resources we could find to help you get up and running as quickly as possible. Above all else - don't be afraid to play around, have some fun and enjoy yourself. Knitting is about creativity and self expression - forget about all you may have heard about it in the past, knitting is a craft you can make your own. Whether you want to make hip and trendy clothing for yourself or your family, or use more traditional designs, knitting has something for everyone. The basics you need to master may take a bit of practice - but persevere - it's worth it! Because we all learn differently, there is no one definitive 'best way' to learn. Some people pick it up easily from books (and we've included some of our favorites on the resources page) - or you might want to try the Easy Knit course - our friend Carol has just taught herself to knit using it and can't praise it highly enough. Or, you may find that taking a class or joining a knitting group works best for you. Use the menu on the right to find out how will learn best, what you need in your starter kit, what the differences is between types of yarn, and what the basic terms mean - and why not choose yourself a free beginners pattern to get you going?
