learning to knit - free beginners patterns

Ok, so you've mastered your basic knit and purl stitches.  Ready to get started and actually make something?  Get your needles at the ready because here our some fantastic patterns that you can start making straight away!

This is the easiest scarf ever!  It's stylish and versatile - you can knit it in any yarn of your choice - just make sure the needle size you use matches the recommended size on the yarn label.  The one we've pictured here uses a textured tape yarn which is great when you're starting out as a you don't have to be as neat with this type of yarn as it hides a multitude of 'sins'.  It uses knit stitch only so it's great to practice your stitches, gauge and finding your knitting rhythm.
This cushion and throw set from patons allows you to practice different combinations of stitches.  The shapes are easy and working on big project like a throw can be very calming and Zen like!

This fake fur stole will add a touch of glamour to any evening outfit.  It uses knit stitch only but starts you getting used to decreasing stitches - a must have skill when following any pattern.
This fantastic wrap looks complicated but is actually very easy to make.  It involves weaving ribbons through the knitting (you do special rows of dropped stitch to leave room to do this.)  Don't worry, we know this is jumping you up from the basic knit and purl stitches you've been doing - but that's half the fun!
